Launched in June 2006 and published 10 times per year (July/August and December/January double issues), KangaNews provides a one-stop information service on the Kangaroo, Kauri, AU domestic and NZ domestic bond markets.

The aim of KangaNews is to provide issuers and investors with all the data and information they need to keep up to date with the deals and trends making headlines in the markets.

Our People

Samantha Swiss
Managing director
Sam has worked in trade publishing since 1992. She has worked in London, Hong Kong and Sydney and she now lives in Spain.

Sam has been involved with the Australian capital markets since launching the Insto business on behalf of an Asian-based publishing company, in 1999. She ran this business in Australia until July 2002, after which she continued to consult for the business from Europe. During this time, Sam developed excellent relationships with key players in the Australian and Kangaroo bond markets including issuers, investors and intermediaries.

She started her career with Euromoney plc in London and Hong Kong, after which she worked with Thomson Financial Services in Hong Kong.

Laurence Davison
Editor
Laurence has worked in financial trade publishing in the UK since 2003. He moved to Sydney in October 2006 and joined KangaNews as senior staff writer in March 2007 before becoming editor in December 2008.

Most recently, Laurence was senior editor at FOW (previously owned by Metal Bulletin plc, now owned by Euromoney plc), running two editorial products and the editorial website. Before this, he worked first as a graduate analyst at ING Barings in London, then as an analyst at Deutsche Asset Management in London.

His academic qualifications include a BA in Philosophy, Polictics and Economics from Oxford University.

Brydie Wright
Project manager
Brydie has worked in the media and higher education sector for over 10 years, managing extensive projects in television production, business development and events.

She has worked in Sydney and the UK, building relationships with international clients from a diverse variety of sectors, including project managing a strategic relationship with a major financial institution and a UK university. She also established a series of successful networking groups as a vehicle for promoting the university’s business services to the commercial sector.

Brydie recently qualified for a Graduate Certificate in Management with the Chartered Management Institute UK, building on her undergraduate degree in Arts (with Honours), from the University of Macquarie.

Tara Spencer
Staff writer

Tara has more than eight years’ experience in print and broadcast journalism having made an early start in specialist media education. She graduated top of her class at Murdoch University in Western Australia in 2009, with a double degree in journalism and English.

Prior to university she excelled in her English studies, scoring within the top 0.5 per cent of all Western Australian students during her TEE exams. In 2008, Tara was introduced to the financial industry when she began working for an investment company. She also worked at a community newspaper in WA before moving to Sydney to join the KangaNews team in February 2010.

Jennie Wright
Subscriptions manager
Jennie has worked in trade publishing since 1999, on magazine titles covering Hong Kong and China business, investment banking and debt capital markets. She has travelled extensively in the Asia Pacific region.


Her banking career dates back to 1977, when she worked for Midland Bank (now HSBC) in London and Sydney over a period of nine years, obtaining professional qualifications in the banking area and experience in leasing and trade receivables finance.

Jennie has business relationships with many trade associations and banks in the region, as well as with major corporates. Her academic qualifications include a B.Sc (Hons) in Business, from Bradford University in the UK, and a postgraduate qualification from UTS Sydney.

Kimberley Gaskin
Contributing editor
Kimberley has worked in financial markets publishing since joining the Insto business in 2000. In 2002 she was appointed editor of Insto magazine, a position she held until she left in January 2006. During this time, Kimberley established long-term relationships with key players in the Australian capital markets.

Since the beginning of 2006, Kimberley has worked freelance for a range of Australian publishing and financial service companies. She has written features for each issue of KangaNews since the magazine was launched in June 2006. Kimberley has played an integral role in developing the editorial direction of the magazine.
