Kangaroo bonds are registered bonds issued by non-Australian entities, denominated in Australian dollars, in the domestic capital market. Kangaroo bonds are usually governed by Australian law and traded and cleared in the domestic clearing system operated by Austraclear.

The Kangaroo bond market was opened by Korea Development Bank on August 1 1996.

Total outstanding: NZ$8,765,000,000

Kauri bonds are issued by non-New Zealand entities, denominated in New Zealand dollars, in the domestic capital market. They are settled via Austraclear NZ and are documented offshore (except for supranationals of which New Zealand is a member).  

The Kauri bond market was opened by Merrill Lynch & Co on August 31 2004.
