Many pundits expect the massive election victory recorded by Australia’s Labor party makes it an odds-on favourite to retain power in the next election, too. If this proves to be the case, Labor can hope to be in power right through to – and beyond – 2030, the first key date for targets on the route to net zero and thus a major test of the success of decarbonisation policy.
