About KDB Bank

KDB Bank (KDB) was founded in 1954 with the mandate to build, strengthen and advance Korea’s national economy, industries and financial system as the government’s primary financial-policy vehicle. The Korean government not only fully and directly owns KDB but is also obliged to replenish capital should KDB reserves be insufficient.

As a leader in local corporate financing, KDB has nurtured its corporate clients and helped them transform into global players through 67 years of operation. KDB promotes Korean economic growth by providing indispensable financial resources to key industries. KDB acts as a market leader in corporate banking and restructuring, investment banking, project financing, and financial consultation in Korean markets.

Sustainable funding strategy

As a policy bank, KDB aligns its business with Korean government policy and nurtures Korean industry and corporations where financial support is necessary. Since its first green bond in international capital markets in 2017 – to support green-energy projects – KDB has continued offerings of green and social bonds to help finance environmentally sustainable and socially responsible businesses.

KDB set up its framework for green, social and sustainability (GSS) bond issuance in line with the Green Bond Principles and Social Bond Principles and KDB keeps compliant with the guidelines. KDB pioneered GSS bonds in the Korean market with the first-ever green and social bonds in 2018. Since then, many other Korean banks and corporates have followed suit, driving the growth and diversity of the Korean ESG bond market. Whenever KDB business lines expand to green- and social-related business, KDB can access both international and local capital markets to issue GSS bonds.
