Still no sign of deal fatigue in the Australian primary market as high-grade, bank and corporate issuance continued at pace – accompanied by the seemingly ever-present securitisation market. Deal sources continue to report oversubscribed books and demand from domestic and offshore investors.

Benchmark-sized issuance in the long end of the curve has been a little-trodden path for high-grade Kangaroo issuers in 2024, with the exception of a cluster of Canadian-origin deals. A new transaction from International Finance Corporation exploited a pocket of demand that deal sources say has been overlooked for some time – and that may help promote a positive new-year issuance story in 2025.

While not the biggest transaction of the year, deal sources say Goodman Australia Partnership’s return to the domestic market is still a significant trade. Coming after a four-year absence – and from a sector that has been less active in 2024 – the deal still attracted a nearly five-times oversubscription and in doing so demonstrated the breadth of local demand.
