At the back end of a phenomenal year for local and global credit issuance, participants discussed demand, funding and execution strategy, the growing prominence of the euro and Australian dollar markets, and the changing manner in which investors are addressing sustainability. Separately, KangaNews spoke to key buy-side accounts in Asia and Europe to hear their perspective on Australian credit.

Melbourne Airport is the fifth issuer in its sector to access the Australian dollar market this year and deal sources say the deal outcome demonstrates investors’ ongoing appetite for critical infrastructure credit and willingness to support less-common deal tenor. However, leads say the issuer’s specific attributes and growth areas also helped attract investor interest to what was its first Australian dollar deal in three years.

Melbourne Airport says its return to the euro market priced at a level competitive with recent comparable domestic trends while allowing the issuer to print its largest-ever capital market volume. The Australian-origin corporate pipeline is building in Europe and leads say it continues to be an important option for many issuers even as the domestic market impresses with a series of record orderbooks.
